AromaPoint Therapy combines the healing properties of therapeutic essential oils with acupressure or acupuncture treatment. Treatments are based on a Chinese Medicine diagnosis, with a combination of body work, acupressure, acupuncture and application of essential oil to the acupoints.
This can be a completely needle-free treatment, or combined with traditional acupuncture and/or abdominal massage.
“Essential oils are easily absorbed via the skin and mucosa into the bloodstream, affecting the nature of circulation as a whole”.
Julia Lawless, Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils
How we use essential oils in a treatment session
The nature of the specific oils complement the acupuncture points chosen for the treatment. Each oil is selected for its properties in Chinese Medicine. Often, the synergistic treatments may be more powerful than simply using essential oils or just acupuncture needles on their own. These treatments are also great for those who are uncomfortable around needles.
This combination of natural therapies works on both the physiological, emotional and energetic levels of the body. Essential oils have an effect on the limbic system, which is the ancient part of our brain that connects with emotions, memory, behaviour and endocrine function.
Much like the individual functions of acupuncture points, each oil also has its own healing properties, functions and therapeutic applications. Oils will often affect different body areas in different ways. In adding them to an acupuncture session, they are chosen for how they relate to TCM.
